Why visit Valldemossa?
Valldemossa sits north of Palma in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, at an altitude that gives it a cooler, greener feel than the coast. Its stone houses, flower-lined lanes and hilltop church made it one of Mallorca’s most painted and photographed villages long before mass tourism arrived.
Its most famous chapter came in the winter of 1838 to 1839, when composer Frédéric Chopin and writer George Sand rented cells in the former monastery and spent three months here.
The Royal Charterhouse is the centrepiece of any visit, but the village itself rewards slower exploration. The cobblestone streets, church square and views down the valley towards the sea are the kind of things that stay with you.

King Juan Carlos I Gardens
The public gardens beside the Charterhouse offer a calm green space with mountain views.
