Why take the Tren de Sóller?

The Tren de Sóller has been running since 1912, built to connect the citrus-growing valley of Sóller to the capital when the Serra de Tramuntana mountains made road travel slow and unreliable.

The narrow-gauge wooden carriages still rattle through tunnels, across stone viaducts and through orange and lemon groves on a 27-kilometre route that takes around one hour each way.

The appeal is not speed. A car reaches Sóller faster through the modern tunnel, but the train is about the journey itself, the views, the wooden carriages and the feeling of travelling through Mallorca as it looked a century ago.

From Sóller town, a vintage tram continues the journey through orange groves down to Port de Sóller, creating a full day that combines train, mountain town, port and beach.
